KHERSON, UKRAINE: The Global Black Coalition is doing everything to help rescue Black students

Today was a very emotional day as we had our daily briefing and check up with our African students blocked in Kherson. Many of them are mentally exhausted.

When asked what they wanted to share, one of them, Christophe said: “First thank you for the food and all the support. Thank you for bringing a bit of hope to us. We wake up and go to sleep to the sounds of bombs. The fear of dying is very heavy. We just came to Ukraine to study. That’s all we ever wanted to do. It is very difficult for us. We are grateful for all the support, all the food; but ultimately we just want to be in a safer place! Please let the world know that we are here. We are blocked here! We need the international community to help us get out. Please. Our hands and feet are tied!”

Today, our coalition set up a meeting for them with a Director at the University of Ottawa. This gave them a lot of hope and something good to look forward to. We are actively working to transfer some of them to Canadian universities who have voiced the desire to be transferred.

We are advocating and contacting various diplomatic corps as well as to the European Union, the United Nations and the African Union.

Please join us and use your social media platforms, emails etc to ask for help for the Kherson students!
